New Year, Same Sad Statistics

As 2015 closes, let’s remember all of the things we are thankful for: family, friends, the holidays, and warm place to sleep, amongst other things. For some people, these busy times bring on stress and anxiety. And for some of these people, this means turning to drugs and alcohol as an outlet.

With 2016 approaching, we will be ringing in the new year. During this time, someone will be injured in a drunk driving crash every two minutes, two out of three people will be involved in a drunk driving crash in their lifetime, and there will be upwards of 300,000 incidents of drinking and driving every day.

Remember there are always alternatives to drinking. Talking to friends and family, going to a movie, or visiting a safe place (such as a youth center) are great ways to pass the time without bringing drugs or alcohol into the mix.

If you don’t have a safe place to be or if you don’t have anyone to talk to, remember that the Youth Achievement Center is always there to help. Call 913-682-8222.
